Young Enterprise Scheme – Waikato/King Country Regional Awards 2017

It was an exciting evening on Thursday, 26 October for Richa Nand, Zanė Mostert, Tailah Bradnock and Brianne Erb when they attended the Young Enterprise Scheme (Waikato/King Country Region) for the Regional Awards 2017. These Year 12 students had formed a YES Company as part of the course this year, coming up with a technology based idea to help NCEA students revise and plan for their external examinations in English, Te Reo Maori and Maths.

They planned to create a phone app under their company name of SWOT (Study With Our Techniques) which not only gave hints, tips and advice on how to revise, but also had links to past NZQA papers and exemplars, with a unique selling point of collaboration with subject teachers.

Their idea was well received following their Dragon’s Den presentation and attracted the interest of sponsors and investors. A major issue which has prevented a full market launch is the need for expert product development through a phone app software developer.

SWOT as a company took out the Finance Award for having a robust financial plan, controls and accounting records and then had the credible recognition of the YES Third Place Award for the whole of the Waikato/King Country region.

Well done girls! All of that commitment, enthusiasm and hard entrepreneurial work has been truly rewarded.
We wish you every success in the future.
